Comparison between the Results with Korean Fluid Vaccine and Norwegian Dry Vaccine

Abstract
Summary
This is a report on the result of a collective medical examination, conducted in April,
1962, covering 534 children, six to eight years old who had recently entered Choong
Moo Primary School, Seoul. Of the total 534,265 were boys and 269 were girls. 9 of the
boys and 12 of the girls were previously BCG Vaccinated. Therefore 513 un-vaccinated
pupils were examined.
And BCG vaccination was given to those belonging to Tuberculin negative group used
for the vaccination were two types of BCG-Norwegian dried vaccine 118 and Korean
fluid vaccine 122.
The result is as follows;
1) In age of 6-8 years, infection rate is 37.5%.
2) 5.2% of all the positive children showed active disease and need of medication.
3) At the use of Norwegian vaccine produces a higher percent positive reactors than
does the Korean vaccine, giving a ratio of 97:59.
4) The induration of the local reactions after BCG vaccination. shows a higher
percentage of big indurations in the group vaccinated with Norwegian vaccine as
compared with the group vaccinated with Norwegian vaccine as compared with the
group vaccinated with Korean vaccine.
5) Re-tuberculin testing with Mantoux reaction after BCG vaccination shows that the
Norwegian vaccine causes a higher rate of positive tuberculin-reactors than Korean
vaccine does.
